New oil refinery in Diwaniya November 4, 2008 - 03:23:05 Aswat Al Iraq DIWANIYA / Aswat al-Iraq: Media manager of Najaf oil refinery on Tuesday said that Diwaniya new refinery, with a production capacity of 10 thousand barrels per day (bpd), will be opened by November 7, 2008, “The refinery will be opened next Friday,” Ahmed Abduljabbar Rezaj told Aswat al-Iraq. For his part, the official spokesperson of the Iraqi Ministry of Oil said that the refinery’s capacity will be increased to 30 thousand (bpd) by next year. “The oil minister will open the refinery,” Asim Jihad told Aswat al-Iraq.
Japanese companies want to invest in Iraq November 3, 2008 - BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: More than twenty Japanese companies expressed desire to invest in the Iraqi market, mainly in oil field, the official spokesman for the oil ministry said on Monday. “Oil Minister Hussein al-Shahrestani met the Japanese ambassador in Baghdad and representatives of more than 20 Japanese companies, specialized in oil field,” Essam Jihad told Aswat al-Iraq. “The representatives expressed their desire to enter the Iraqi market and invest in the country,” he added. “The minister expressed readiness to provide the companies with all facilities,” the spokesman noted. Popular market opened north of Kut WASSIT/ Aswat al-Iraq: A $209 million popular market has been inaugurated in the north of Kut city, a local media source said on Monday. “Today, Wassit Governor Lateef Hamd al-Tarfa opened a popular market in al-Numaniya district (40 km north of Kut),” Majid al-Itabi told Aswat al-Iraq. The market, established on an area of 5,000 square meters, includes 72 shops, he added. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Rural roads implemented in Missan / Aswat al-Iraq: A governmental company on Tuesday started implementing a number of rural roads in Missan at a total cost of 1.8 billion Iraqi dinars, the director of the Missan roads and bridges department said. “Ashour company of the reconstruction ministry today began implementing a number of rural roads at a total length of 100km in separate areas of the province,” Mohamed Jaseb told Aswat al-Iraq. “The project is due to be completed in three months,” he noted. Missan is a Shiite province. Its capital city is al-Amara. Sitting on the Tigris River, Amara lies 390 km south of Baghdad. Missan, in the east of the country, bordering Iran, is home to many marsh Arabs.
